CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Marc A. White, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 1st 2017 at the Veteran's Affairs Hospital in Brockton, Mass.

He was born on June 8th 1921 in Rochester, N.Y., he was the second of four children born to Francis Xavier and Josephine Mary (Rafter) White.

He was an avid baseball player through his grade school and high school years. He graduated from Arlington (MA) High School in 1939 as Class Valedictorian.

Mr. White attended Harvard College, where he matriculated in the fall of 1939 as a member of the Class of 1943.

He took summer courses in order to graduate early in 1942 so he could join the war effort with the U.S. Navy.

After attending Midshipmen's School at Columbia University and Mine Warfare School in Yorktown, VA, Mr. White served as Supply Officer, Gunnery Officer, Communications Officer, Navigator, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer on Navy minesweepers in the Caribbean and, by the war's end, in the Pacific.

After leaving the Navy as a Lieutenant in 1946, Mr. White attended the University of Virginia School of Law.

After graduating in 1948 with an L.L.B., he took a position as a clerk for Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Justice James J. Ronan.

After two years in Chicago as a trial attorney with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (now the IRS), Mr. White moved to Washington D.C. in 1951 and went into private practice, focusing on corporate finance law.

In 1953, Mr. White met Mary Claire LaBonté at a party in Georgetown. They married on January 2nd 1954 in her hometown of Ithaca, New York and returned to Washington D.C..

From 1958 to 1967, Mr. White was General Counsel of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD).

In the following years, he served as a partner in three law firms, and regularly took on securities law cases for the SEC and the US District Court for the District of Columbia.

From 1979 until 1993, he served as an Independent Director of Merrill Lynch funds and split time between corporate and administrative law practice in Ithaca, N.Y. and Washington, D.C.

From 1995 until 2002, Mr. White served as a Federal Administrative Law Judge for the Office of Hearings and Appeals in New York before moving to Cambridge, Mass., where he continued to practice law.

He was a member of the Bar of Massachusetts, Illinois, the District of Columbia, New York and the U.S. Supreme Court.

He was predeceased by his parents and one son; Gregory LaBonte White on June 11th 2016.

Mr. White's burial will be held in the spring at the St. Genevieve's Cemetery in Shoreham, Vt. next to his son Gregory LaBonte White.

A special blessing from His Holiness Pope Pius XII was read at the marriage yesterday of Miss Mary Claire LaBonte, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold R. LaBonte, of Ithaca, when she was united in marriage to Marc A. White, son of Mrs. Frank X. White, of Arlington, Mass.

The Rt. Rev. William Byrne, pastor of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ithaca, officiated at the Nuptial Mass. A breakfast and reception took place at the Statler Club after the ceremony.
