Gary Wayne Henry, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to so many passed away on August 18, 2017 at Enloe Hospital, Chico CA

Gary was born on September 14,1945 in Callaway, Nebraska to Wayne and Alberta (Vincent) Henry. In 1950 the family moved to Meridian, Idaho where he grew up.

Gary attended Meridian schools, played football and graduated from Meridian High School in 1963. After high school he attended Boise Junior College (now Boise State University), joined the Marine Reserves in 1964 and earned the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Gary was always a hard worker and would work 2 or 3 jobs to provide for his family. Among his employers in Meridian were Bower’s Meridian Shell Station and (Earl) Mackay Auto Parts. On weekend mornings, he would pick up milk in 10 gallon cans from area farms and deliver them to the local dairy.

In 1968 he married Zelda Smith. Together they raised 3 boys Matt, Brad and Dan. In 1969 they moved to Chico. There Gary worked for Wayne’s Rambler, Coot Industries and A&D Auto Parts. In 1972 the family moved to Orland where Gary coached the Orland Aztecs youth football teams. From 1973 to 2007 he managed M&M Motor Parts in Corning doing what he loved, serving customers. He retired from M&M in 2007, then worked for Sunbridge Care Center in Willows as a maintenance supervisor, retiring in in 2013.

Besides supporting their boy’s sports and activities, Gary and Zelda were huge Dale Earnhardt and NASCAR fans. They were also active with several pool leagues and were Moose Lodge members. They enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and loved to take them camping. They also had lots of friends they would like to get together with for drinks or meeting on the North coast for surf fishing.

Gary was preceded in death by Zelda who died in 2008. He is survived by his sons and their wives; Matthew & Christina Henry of Corning, CA; Brad & Candy Henry of Vancouver, WA; and Dan and Connie Henry of Chico, CA as well as grandchildren Dane Henry, Emily Henry, Dakota Henry, Bailey Henry, Nick Paiva, Kaedin Henry, Megan Henry, Shelby Henry, Michael Houck, Elizabeth Houck, and great granddaughter Annalisha Houck, his sisters Roberta Kennedy of Nampa Idaho and Marva Jenson of Ogden Utah, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank all of Dad’s wonderful customers and friends who shared so many happy times and memories with him and always made him laugh and smile.
