Cynthia Carol Graves was born September 21, 1950 at the Galloway Hospital in Anthony, Kansas, second daughter of Glen Elsworth and Norma Jean (Kane) Patterson. She grew up on farms west of Anthony and near Bluff City. She graduated from Anthony High School with the Class of 1968.
Cindy was married to Gary Sherman and they were blessed with one son, Jason Allyn. She later married Billy Williams and was blessed with two more children: Becky Jo and Scotty Lee. Cindy's mother died at a young age, so she became very close to her short term in-laws, Lawson and Mary Williams. She treated them like they were her parents and remained close to them after she and Billy divorced. She was always a part of the Williams family no matter what.
On July 27, 1989, Cindy married the love of her life, Ellis Clyde Graves, in Loudon County, Tennessee. She and Ellis lived in Manchester and Anthony. They enjoyed trips back to Tennessee to spend time with Ellis' family. Ellis passed away on March 12, 2003, leaving Cindy broken hearted.
Cindy worked several jobs throughout her life. She was a school bus driver, a waitress and cook, ran Williams Recreation in Manchester, helped Ellis on the farm, worked as a social worker at the Community Health Center in Wakita, was a secretary for Williams Funeral Home in Anthony, and lastly a house cleaner.
Before her health started to fail, Cindy was a natural caregiver. She loved taking care of family and friends in their time of need whether it be doctoring them, feeding them or just listening. She loved family gatherings and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed playing cards, marbles and other games with her family and friends. She was always hard headed, strong willed, and a neat freak. She had a sassy attitude and was always full of sarcastic comments.
When her health began failing, she moved into the Anthony Community Care Center, where she received wonderful care even though she was constantly challenging the staff. They all loved her sense of humor. During her time there she became very close to Pastor Jim Anderson and they visited regularly and she really enjoyed her connection with him.
On July 2, 2017, Cindy passed away with her niece, Autumn, by her side. She meets in Heaven her beloved husband, Ellis; her nephew, Danny Dodgen; and many dear, close friends that she lost throughout the years.
Cindy will be deeply missed by her son, Jason Sherman and wife, Amy; her niece and caregiver, Autumn Kloefkorn and husband, Aaron; her daughter, Becky Rader and companion, Dave Phipps; her son, Scotty Williams; her sister, Sheryl Hopkins; grandson, Blake Rader; nephew, Jeff Dodgen and his children: Joel Dodgen and daughter, Laila, and Caitlin and Chloe Dodgen; step-grandchildren: Talen and Toi Collins; the Williams family: Bob Williams, Julia Vavra, Brandy Rice and husband, Eric, James Williams and children, Wylie and Stephany, and Summer Wagner and husband, Chris; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; her Anthony Community Care Center family; and many dear classmates and friends.
Memorial service were held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Community Building in Manchester, Oklahoma with Pastor Jim Anderson officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Manchester Cemetery.
