From his obit: "He was born at Ossian, Livingston county, and moved in 1870 to Batavia, where for several years he conducted the Quale planing mill, which formerly stood south of the present Central depot. Later he moved to Bristol and engaged in the lumber business. Returning to Batavia he opened a machine shop in rear of the post office, where his son Herbert is now in business.
Mr. Hampton, who was 70 years old on Nov 6th last, leaves a widow; 3 sons, Frank and Herbert Hampton of Batavia and Charles Hampton of Portageville; 3 daughters, Mrs. Hattie L. Kingsley of Batavia, Mrs. Minnie M. DeLano of Rochester and Mrs. Martin Webb of Hornellsvllle, and one brother, Thaddeus Hampton of Glenwood, MI"

He sporadically kept a diary / log book, which is now part of the collection at the Genesee Country Village & Museum (https://www.gcv.org) in Mumford, NY.

He and Clarissa are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Batavia, but the gravesite is unmarked.
