Lucas Haynes Byrn was the son of Handy Wood and Sarah Rebecca Haynes Byrn. He married Jane Catherine "Jennie" Kenderick, October 10, 1865 at Ripley, Mississippi. Jennie was the daughter of James Warren Kendrick and Martha Craig Glenn Kendrick. Martha was the daughter of James Glenn and Martha Craig Glenn. James Glenn was a Revolutionary War soldier.
Lucas along with his brothers Hugh, William and Ross, joined the Second Mississippi Regiment Infantry, Co.B O'Conner Rifles on April 30, 1861. His records tell us that he had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark hair, and was 5'8" tall. This regiment was sent to Lynchburg, Virginia and was assigned to Davis' Brigade, Heth's Division, Army of Northern Virginia General Robert Edward Lee Commanding.
On August 14, 1861 he was appointed as Hospital Steward. Lucas was acting Sergeant Major starting on September 29, 1862 and Assistant Quartermaster starting on December 21, 1862. He was later detailed as Brigade Ambulance Sergeant, May 1, 1864. Lucas was taken prisoner and is listed as a POW at Memphis Tennessee February 15, 1865. He took the oath of allegiance and was paroled June 6, 1865.
About 1880 Lucas and Jennie moved to Lamar County Texas. After Lucas died, Jennie married James Edwin Collins. She died September 8, 1922 at Reboth Beach, Sussex County, Delaware. Jennie is buried at Franklin, Tennessee.
They had the following children: Hattie Russell Byrn (married Flavius Lafayette Wiggins), Lillian Byrn (married Jacob H. Harrison), Margaret L. Byrn, and Martha "Mattie" Clifford Byrn (married Edward Lindsey).
