John Carl Altendorf, of Stanchfield, MN, passed away peacefully at his home on Thur, Aug 17, 2017. He was 82 years old. John was born on Nov 11, 1934, in Maple Plain, MN. John was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Alfred Altendorf. He married Phyllis Koch in 1964 after returning from four years of service in the US Army. Together they raised four children and a whole lot of cows. He always had a soft spot for his 15 grandchildren. John’s passion was farming; he spent 40 years milking cows and 25 more years raising beef cattle. John was always quick with a joke or a bit of sarcasm; he enjoyed attending the sales barn, playing cards with friends and getting in some Black Jack at the casino. He was very involved with his church and had a deep Catholic faith. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of 53 years; children Kurt (Melissa), Teri (Curt) Benson, Paul (Ometris), Kevin (Pam); 15 loving grandchildren, Dylan, Maddie, Lizzie, Jared, Paige, Dain, Max, Tyler, Tevin, Tanna, Amber, Nathan, John, Aliza, and Kade; sisters, Helen Vromen and Mary Lou Eull; sister-in-law Sylvia Altendorf and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held on Thurs, Aug 24, 2017, at the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Braham, MN. Inurnment was in the Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Braham. Arrangements were with the Rock-Ingebrand Funeral Home, Braham, MN.
