Mary Catherine Lair Miller Gish, 96, passed away Monday, October 5th, 1959, at Mexico, Indiana. She was born in Washington County, Tennessee, on May 12, 1963, the daughter of John and Catherine Bowman Lair and was the youngest of six brothers and 1 sister and the last to depart this life.
She united with the Church of the Brethren at the age of 12 years and remained faithful during a long life.
She was married to George K. Miller of Cando, ND in 1898. To this union was born one child, who died in infancy. While living at Waddams Grove, Illinois, the husband died in 1934. In 1936 she was married to James W. Gish of Beatrice, Nebraska, they took charge of the work of the Shelby County Church at Leonard, Missouri. When some years later the husband’s health failed they moved to North Manchester, Indiana to be near his daughter. In 1949 the husband passed away. Then Mrs. Gish took residence in the Brethren Home in Mexico, Indiana, where she lived at the time of her death.
She is survived by four stepdaughters, two stepsons, a number of step-grandchildren and as well as several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held at the Lena Burial Park on October 8, 1959.
