Service for Esther Payne, 85, of Gilmer, was to be Saturday, Oct. 14 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bishop Shuck Donnell was to officiate. Burial was to follow at the Kelsey Cemetery in Upshur County.

Payne died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, in Longview.

Born Aug. 16, 1915, in Upshur County, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by a son, A.L. Payne of Gilmer; two daughters, Pat Wright of Odessa and Karan Bergstrom of Sweetwater; two brothers, Bernard Chevalier and Azell Chevalier of Gilmer; five sisters, Oni Bryant of Gilmer, Viola Barksdale of Longview, Thurza Blackshear of Port Sulphur, La., Jean Taylor of Mt. Pleasant and Faynell Green of Shreveport, La.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.
