Born in Simpson, son of the late Louis and Helen Ploskonka, he attended Blakely schools. He was an Army veteran of World War II in the European theater of operations. He was a POW in Stalag 13 in Germany and was awarded a Purple Heart. He resided in Peckville for more than 60 years and was employed at Tobyhanna Army Depot.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, a charter member of the Shopa-Davey VFW Post 6082, Peckville, and a founding member of the Blakely Ambulance Association. He was also a member of the Blakely Hose Company until retiring, the Governor's Club and a longtime coach of Youth Football in Blakely-Peckville.
"Joker" loved going to the Peckville VFW with his friends, playing cards and all the games of chance on a daily basis. He loved all the children in his family as well as all the children in the neighborhood. He was very devoted to his community, serving as a volunteer fireman, EMT and coach. Above everything, he loved his daughter, son and grandchildren more than anything in life.
Surviving are a daughter, Debra Lutchko, Archbald; a son, Louis Ploskonka and wife, Robin, Peckville; a brother, Louis, Peckville; four grandchildren, Justin, Sumer, Spencer and Adam; nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Ploskonka; two sisters, Anna Rovinsky and Victoria Popeck; and three brothers, Theodore Ploskonka, John Ploskonka, who was killed in action during World War II, and Frank Ploskonka.
