When Carl arrived in Vietnam, he was assigned to the Weapons Platoon, B Company, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne, USARV.
Carl was in a helicopter, that after taking-off from a stream bottom surrounded by mountaineous terrain, a steep left turn was performed to avoid the mountain side. The aircraft lost RPM, crashed and burned.
Survived by his parents, Henry Konopa and Eloise Davis.
