Mary Louise "Lou" Agan, 92

CAPE ELIZABETH - Lou Agan, 92, died on Aug. 6, 2017, at the Kennebunk Center for Health and Re-habilitation.
Born Mary Louise Conley on Jan. 24, 1925, in Bridgeport, Conn., she was the only child of Thomas Anthony Conley and Jeanette Mae (Ferris) Conley.

Lou grew up in Bridgeport and graduated from Bassick High School in 1942. She attended the University of Vermont, where she met her future husband on the corner of Loomis and Prospect Streets. She married LTJG Robert William Agan, M.D., on Feb. 13, 1946, at Camp Shoemaker Naval Hospital near Hayward, Calif.

Lou was a graduate of New Haven Junior College, where she earned a degree in physiotherapy.

In 1949, the Agans moved to Cape Elizabeth, raising a family there and building many great friendships.

Lou was a leader in Cub Scouts, Bluebirds, Campfire Girls and the PTA. She was a 1000-hour Mercy volunteer and worked for many years on the Mercy Hospital Women's Auxiliary book sale. Her husband Bob practiced anesthesia at Mercy.
Lou was a parishioner at St. Alban's Church for more than 60 years. She volunteered in many capacities there, including Childrens' Trading Post, Couples Club, Altar Guild, Vestry, and as Junior Warden.

Lou and Bob loved living by the ocean in Cape Elizabeth. Beginning in 1975, they resided near Kettle Cove, enjoyed the views, gardened, picked raspberries, and walked Crescent Beach almost daily, collecting sea glass.

Lou was predeceased by her grandson Matthew in 1997, her husband Robert in 2004, and many beloved friends.

She is survived by her sons: David Agan (and wife Aileen Fortune), of Wells; and Mark Agan, of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; her daughters: Nancy Agan, of Gorham; and Martha Agan (and husband Jay Madden), of Cape Elizabeth; and her grandchildren, Joshua Hopkins Agan (and wife Intan and daughter Maia), of Jacksonville Fla.; Barrett Agan Nichols (and wife Jill), of Lyndonville, Vt.; John Fortune Agan (and wife Kimberly), of Washington, D.C.; and Clare Agan Fortune-Lad (and husband Kyle), of Haverhill, Mass.

The family expresses its gratitude to the staff of Village Crossings, who gave Lou a comfortable, supportive home for five years; and to the staff of the Kennebunk Center for Health and Rehabilitation, who cared for her since 2015.

A memorial service and reception will be held at St. Alban's Church on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m., with reception to follow.
Burial will take place later at Riverside Cemetery.
