WESTFIELD - Arthur Carlton Lawson, 93, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Mountain Valley Living Center. He was born on July 14,1923 in Forsyth County, NC. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps between 1938-1940 to construct Hanging Rock State Park before volunteering to serve in the Army during WWII. He was a proud, stoic man who will be remembered for his love for "all creatures great and small" especially his dogs. Arthur is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Lawson of King, who cared for him sacrificially during his later years, three children, Tina Barr and husband Frankie and Timothy Lawson and wife Esther all of King and Tammy Wright and husband Milton of Winston Salem. He was also blessed with six grandchildren, Dawn Petoskey, Eric Barr, Chris Lawson, Matthew Lawson, Carrie Leavell, and Margaret Thompson and seven great grandchildren. Proceeding him in death are his siblings, Robert Lawson, Lillian Lawson, Earline Lawson of King, NC Mae Robinson and Opal Hill of Fresno, Ca. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 7, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Slate Funeral Home, King NC. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at King Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations will be accepted at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 129 Veterans Drive, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 or to King Outreach Ministry, P. O. Box 1450, King, NC 27021. 2 Corinthians: 3-5 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too."
