Amos Chitwood, the seventh child of Captain James Chitwood and Alice was born VA between 1760 and 1770. Married Prudence Latimore October 1, 1793, Rutherford Co NC. They moved to Jefferson Co IN from Rutherford Co NC in 1807. Prudence, daughter of Daniel Latimore and Ann Stockton, was born between 1770 and 1780 in NC and died between April 1841 and April 1842 at Kent, Jefferson Co IN. Amos died at Kent, Jefferson Co IN 1843. His will was probated on October 10, 1843.

They had 10 children;

On June 1 1817 he married James Chitwood to Alisa Chitwood. Alisa is oldest his daughter and James Chitwood. James is the son of Amos' brother James making married couple Alisa and James, first cousins.

On January 15 1838 he married Adam Stonehouse to Cynthia Ann Chitwood. Cynthia is Amos's daughter and 4th child.

Records can be found for Amos' son Amos J Chitwood marrying Matilda Severs on January 16, 1845. The marriage was performed by Benjamin Allen who is Amos J Chitwood's brother in law who married to his sister Maria Chitwood in 1837.

Amos J Chitwood married again to Margaret Suddette on December 15, 1855.
