Marion was a graduate of Newport Hospital School of Nursing. She served in the military for more than 31 years as an army nurse. She was called back to service after World War II as an Air Force flight nurse, transporting wounded soldiers to Air Force Hospitals during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. She was later assigned to Westover Air Force Base and then Otis Air Force Base.

Sister of Alice, Pauline "Polly" (Coggeshall) Porkka (d. September 22, 2016), and Dwight Coggeshall (b. 1929; d. January 2, 2013) all of Centerville.

Aunt of Robert of Ankeny, Iowa, Marion Alice Porkka (deceased), Beth Ann Porkka (deceased), Robert Joseph of Texas, Mason, and Liam of Texas.

Predeceased by her parents Cora (Hart) and Chester E. Coggeshall, Sr., her brothers Lloyd Coggeshall (b. May 29, 1906; d. June 1, 1982 at 76 years), Stuart, Forest, Chester, Cook, David, and Richard, and her sister Hilda.
