George was a son of James Pennell Milam (1807– ) and Delania E. 'Nanny' Coffee (1805–1866).

George served in the Confederate States of America Army.

MILAM, GEORGE P.: Enlist in Company G 25 Sept 1864. Absent on horse detail Sept-Oct 1864 roll. Absent sick on final 22 Mar 1865 roll. Died 3 May 1909 at Richmond Hospital. Widow Hattie A, married 1874, resident of Pittsylvania County.

George married 26 Nov 1874 Harriett A Owen in Pittsylvania County VA.
