He was born on October 31, 1928, to Raymond and Mary (Kearney) Fields in Fort Fairfield, ME. Ken attended Meriden High School and joined the Army in 1947. He served honorably for three years and was recalled to active duty in 1951 to fight in Korea. During his working career, Ken was employed by International Silver, Wesleyan Press and Pratt & Whitney before finally retiring in 1990.
Ken met and married the love of his life in 1952 and they made a happy and loving home for 65 years. He loved spending time with his family and was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. Ken was a talented woodworker and carpenter and most of his family’s homes include a cherished piece made by Ken. Ken and Terry loved travelling and vacationing together. Ken especially enjoyed Bluegrass Festivals.
Ken was an active veteran serving as Welfare Officer of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Catholic War Veterans’ Post 1166. He was also involved in local scouting as a leader of Troop 41 and was awarded the Bronze Pelican. In his later years, Ken volunteered at Middlesex Hospital.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, son, Paul Fields and his wife Marie of Steep Falls, ME; daughter, Kathleen Lundell Tarallo and her husband Rick Tarallo of Middletown; grandchildren, Sara Jackson and her husband James of Westbrook, ME, Michael and Ciara Lundell, both of Middletown; step grandchildren, Joey Tarallo of Higganum and Richard Tarallo of Middletown; great grandchildren, Tatum Tarallo of Middletown and Brayson Jackson of Westbrook, ME. He was predeceased by a brother, Vaughn Fields and a sister, Wilda Nielson.
Ken also leaves behind a very special caregiver, Annette Jules. They developed a deep bond and she brightened the end of Ken’s life.
Funeral services will be held Thursday (Aug. 17th) at 10:15 a.m. from Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown at followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Liturgy at St. Mary Church, Middletown. Burial with military honors will be held at the State Veterans’ Cemetery, Middletown.
