After graduating from Central High School in La Crosse, Jim continued his education at the Universities of Wisconsin LaCrosse and Madison. Jim enjoyed being a life long student at numerous places of higher learning. Jim spent his professional life teaching in the public schools in St. Louis, Missouri, as well as Kansas City, Missouri. He finished his teaching career at Westport High School, Kansas City, Mo. He truly cared about his students and wanted the best for each and every one of them.
He is survived by his sisters Linda Hendrickson and Leata Anderson as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Jewell Ashworth and his brother, Donald.
Jim was a part of Hillcrest Covenant Church, where he was involved in prayer ministry, particularly for the peoples of Asia for whom he cared deeply.
A memorial service for Jim will be held at Hillcrest Covenant Church on Sunday, April 30 , 2017 at 6:30 p.m. 8801 Nall Avenue, Prairie Village, Kansas
