Nathaniel John Cornelius, a resident of Duncan, peacefully passed away early Monday morning, January 11, 2016. He was 89 years old. John was born September 2, 1926 in Cookietown, OK to William A. “Bill” and Eloda B. (Bruner) Cornelius.

In 1930 he and his family moved to Marlow, OK where he graduated from high school in 1944. He worked two summer vacations in an aircraft factory in California, before joining the Navy Sea-Bee’s. He and Rutha Jean Beatty were united in marriage on December 13, 1947 in Henrietta, Texas. John went to work for Halliburton Services on February 4, 1948,working in the heat treat for over thirty five years. He loved to travel, and fish. He visited all fifty states at least once, and most of the National Parks.

Survivors include one daughter, Debi Campiche, Comanche; two granddaughters: Cortney Gould, Duncan; and Amanda Kane, Lawton; two great-grandsons: Brendan Meadows, Lawton; and Trevor Gould, Fort Worth, TX; a brother, J. Paul Cornelius, Vian, OK; and a brother in law, Butch Beatty, Hennessey, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; two sons: Joe Cornelius and Larry Cornelius; four brothers: Arvin “Boots” Cornelius, L.D. “Bud” Cornelius, Manuel Cornelius, and Wayne Cornelius; and a sister, Wilma Cornelius.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 13th at 2:00 p.m. at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Trent Young officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery.
