Religous Leader. Renowned Indianapolis clergyman and community leader, and member, Indianapolis Civil and Human Rights Hall of Fame. Served as pastor of Indianapolis' Mount Zion Baptist Church for more than 45 years, where he established it as "the church that dares because it cares." Each day he asked God "What do You want me to do today?" Reverend Andrews applied a "cradle to grave" approach to his ministry and established a church well baby clinic, kindergarten, day-care center, a 150-bed geriatric center and 3 apartment buildings for the elderly or handicapped. He was also a member of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Indiana Church Federation, American Baptist Association, Kiwanis International, Prince Hall Grand Masonic Lodge, and received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Indianapolis-based Center for Leadership Development. He was also a past president of the Indiana Baptist State Convention. In his honor, a segment of Boulevard Place, which borders Mt. Zion Church and Crown Hill Cemetery, has been designated "R.T. Andrews Memorial Way."
