Anna Mae Allen
July 14, 1925 - September 26, 2016
Anna Mae Allen, age 91, passed away on Monday September 26th 2016 at Rosebud Village. She was born on July 14th 1925 to Chester and Josephine Bizzaro and had lived here all of her life. She had worked in housekeeping in Heritage House, retail at Kmart, and retired at the age of 77 from the Adult Daycare at First English Lutheran Church.
She was a spunky, strong, and independent lady. Whatever life threw at her, she handled and persevered. She never drove a car. She didn’t have the money to operate and maintain it. She never had a checking account – but at times she worked three jobs to support the three children she raised by herself. Her children brought the joy into her life and made all the struggles worthwhile. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were just the icing on the cake. Things she enjoyed most were family gatherings. She was known as “Granny Annie” to all of the extended family. She would take her grandchildren to Veach’s on Saturdays. It was an adventure and she was just like a kid on those days she spent with her grandchildren.
When her son, Mike, became a firefighter on the Richmond Fire Dept. she adopted all the guys and became “Mom” to them. You’d see her getting on the bus or walking down the street towards the Fire Station with her cake carrier in hand. She kept them supplied with cookies, cakes, and brownies. When her grandsons became Firefighters on the RFD she added a whole new bunch of adopted sons. For years she placed the Wreath on the “Fallen Firefighters Monument” at the annual Memorial Services. She loved the Richmond Fire Department and was so proud and she loved all of “her boys”. She loved her family and one of the last things she said was “We have a good family, because we all love each other.”
One of her last pleasures was her Saturday night “Pizza and Beer”. She celebrated that until shortly before her death. That spunky little Italian lady was loved and will be missed by many.
Survivors include her children Mike (Mariann) Allen, Bernadette Williams, of Richmond and John Allen of Indianapolis; grandchildren Thomas K. Stover of Ft. Myers, Florida, Chris (Desi) Allen, Tony (Toni Angilella) Allen, Farrah (Michael) Caskey, Richmond, Johna Allen, Indianapolis; great grandchildren Sunnie Allen, Anthony Michael Allen, Isabella Caskey, Alexander Caskey, D.J. Morgan, and Bradley Morgan. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Charles Bizzaro; Sister, Carmella (Clara) Dadisman; Son in law, Tim Williams and a special cousin, Anna Marie Ferriell. Liturgy of Christian burial will be held Saturday, October 1st 2016 at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 235 South 5th St., Richmond, IN 47374. Father Kevin Morris will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Andrew Cemetery.
