Tina Mae Dowdy Small, 80, of Newport, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017 at Carolina East Medical Center.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Reece’s Chapel in Mills Creek, officiated by Rev. James Chadwick. Inurnment will follow at Bayview Cemetery in Mill Creek.
Born and reared in New Jersey, Tina has called Mill Creek home for the past 3 decades. Her life there was filled with many treasured friendships. Tina’s personality was buoyant, magnetic; and she never met a stranger. Tina loved antiques and owned her own antique store at one time. Estate and yard sales, where she found collectibles, were her joy.
She is survived by her daughters, Dr. Sharon Peterson and husband Ray of Pearson, GA, Lisa Downey and husband Joe of New Bern, NC; sons Frank R. Franks and wife Dianne of Valdosta, GA, John W. Franks and wife Karen of Los Altos, CA; honorary sister, Dot Karcher and husband Ken of Newport, NC; brother, Roy H. Dowdy, Jr. of Mill Creek; nephew, Timothy Walker of Novato, CA; niece, Kimberly McClure of San Rafael, CA; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren.
Tina was preceded in death by her parents Roy Howard Dowdy, Sr and Helen Bernice Kuslevic Blakeslee; first husband, John W. Franks and her second husband, Ardell Small; son, Ernest Consorte; granddaughter, Rachelle Giovannetti; sister, Patricia Walker.
Family will see friends from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Reece’s Chapel and at other times at the home of Lisa and Joe Downey at 121 Evans Mill Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
