BENJAMIN SMITH III Benjamin Duke Smith III, 79, a 48-year resident of Indian Springs, passed away Feb. 11, 2011. He was born in Ponca City, Okla., and raised in Richland, Wash. He graduated from Columbia High School in Richland, as well as J.M. Perry Institute in Yakima, Wash. He also attended Columbia Basin College of Pasco, Wash. Benjamin "Duke" served in the U.S. Navy on the USS St. Paul during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Daisy; their four children, Diana, Benjamin Duke Smith IV, Darlene "Susie" and Denise; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sisters, Donna Rodeman and Marilyn Balliot of Washington and North Carolina. Benjamin was an avid and well-respected remote control airplane enthusiast and retired from the Nevada Test Site. No services are scheduled.
