GREENSBORO Thomas Duran Chitty, Jr., age 70, passed away in Greensboro on Thursday, August 3, 2017. He was born on May 19, 1947 in Murfreesboro, NC to Thomas Duran and Janice Martin Chitty. Tom was raised in Murfreesboro, then attended Wake Forest University where he earned a masters degree in education. Tom then moved to Greensboro, NC where he taught in Guilford County Schools until the early 1980's. It was then he embarked on a highly successful career in real estate, an occupation that he had an uncanny ability for and truly loved. Tom didn't take long to establish himself as one of the area's top producing agents, going on to form the Tom Chitty & Associates brand that is widely known across the Greensboro and Triad area of NC. A "people person" if there ever was one, Tom had a way of making those around him feel loved and appreciated, no matter their familiarity or station in life. Tom's customers and clients more often than not became fiercely loyal friends; a testament to his character. Another reason for his success can be attributed to one of his favorite expressions: "The harder you work, the luckier you get." The impact Tom Chitty has had in so many lives across North Carolina and the Greensboro area would be hard to overstate. Tom is survived by Barry S. Hardeman, his life partner of 31 years; Barry was also Tom's business partner during most of that time. Tom is also survived by three nieces, Valeria Chitty Harrell and husband Wayne of Washington and their children; Teresa Chitty Parker and husband Keith of Murfreesboro and their children; and Deborah Chitty Parker Revelle and husband Allen of Murfreesboro and their children. A celebration of life will be held at The Marisol on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Greyhound Friends Of North Carolina, 2908-A Oak Ridge Rd., Oak Ridge, NC 27310.
