Richard W. Numrych, 51, of Somers, died Friday (May 13, 2005) as a result of a motorcycle and automobile accident in Tolland. He was born in Rockville, lived there most of his life before moving to Somers 20 years ago. He was a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University and earned his MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, an MS in Environmental Engineering from the Hartford Graduate Center and was employed as a Environmental Engineer at St. Paul Travelers Insurance Co. Richard was a very active man and enjoyed mountain climbing, hiking, canoe racing, motorcycle riding, fishing, hunting and traveling. He traveled cross-country on his motorcycle more than once and visited 49 states. He was an Auxiliary State Police Officer for 25 years, a member of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club and former chairman of the Somers Republican Town Committee. He is survived by his parents, William and Dorothy (Morin) Numrych of Rockville; his former wife and special friend Debbie (Tedford) Numrych; his sister Schelly Numrych of Sacramento, CA; his lifelong friend Stephen "Buzzy" Hurlburt; many aunts, uncles, cousins, good friends and his cat, Echo. Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd. (Rte. 83), Vernon. Burial will be in Island Falls, ME. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday May 18, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, Brunswick, NJ 08902-4301, or the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.
