Carol Ann (Rawson) Hayes passed away Aug. 10, 2017, after an extended illness. She departed this life surrounded by her family.

Carol was born May 26, 1937, in Rupert, Idaho, the fourth child of Joseph Leo Rawson and Grayce Hannah Arehart. She was raised in the St. Anthony area, where her father worked for many farmers in the Egin and Hamer area. She graduated from South Fremont High School in 1955, after which she moved to Lewiston, Idaho, where she attended cosmetology school. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Richard A. Hayes.

Carol and Richard were married on March 27, 1958. They lived in Lewiston, where Dick worked at the Hotel Lewis Clark. They welcomed a son June 1, 1959, and a daughter Nov. 28, 1960. The family eventually moved to Shelley, Idaho, where Carol decided to begin working outside the family home. She worked for the R.T. French potato plant in Shelley for 20 years.

Following their retirement, Carol and Dick traveled to many Western states, as well as to Hawaii. They also enjoyed their weekly trips to Fort Hall to play the slot machines. Dick was never really sure exactly how much Carol won! The couple celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. Carol loved her two children, providing them with stern discipline mixed with love and support while instilling in them her values and sense of humor. She also loved the time she spent with her seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Carol is survived by her husband; her son, Richard Alan (Kris) Hayes, of Roberts, Idaho; and daughter, Patricia Ann Covert, of Pocatello, Idaho. She leaves behind grandsons, Bradley, Matthew and Ryan Hayes and Joey (Buck) Covert, as well as granddaughters, Katie (Jason) Brahosky, Ashlie (Matt) Losee and Brandi (Blake) Blair. Carol is also survived by a brother, Joseph Leo (Dorothy) Rawson, of Dillon, Montana, and Clea (Duane) Perrin, of Canyon Lake, California. Carol was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Shirla Rawson and Bonnie Renee Gonzales.

As per Carol's wishes, no funeral services will be held. There will be a memorial gathering beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the family home at 491 S. Park St., in Shelley. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
