Vonda Kay Russell, 51, of Weyers Cave, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 7, 2017 at her home. She was born in Harrisonburg on June 22, 1966, and was the daughter of Betty Lou (Saufley) Curry, of Weyers Cave, and the late Donnie Wayne Curry.
Vonda attended Mount Sidney United Methodist Church. She had worked as a customer service representative for Sysco Foods in Harrisonburg for 16 years. She graduated from Ft. Defiance High School in 1984 and received her secretarial certificate from Blue Ridge Community College. Vonda enjoyed riding motorcycles.
She was united in marriage on October 5, 2013 to Robert Earl Russell, Jr., of Weyers Cave.
Surviving in addition to her husband and mother is her son, Cody Wayne Shifflett, of Harrisonburg, family friends, Matthew "Bubba" Miller and Colton Shifflett, whom she loved like her own son; a brother-in-law, Thomas C. Russell and wife Penny, and sister-in-law, Karen Mendlen, aunt and uncle, Donna Saufley and Gary Saufley. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceding her in death in addition to her father is a brother, Kent Lee Curry, grandparents, McKendree Miller Saufley, Nena Hottinger Saufley, Charles Curry and Ida Smallwood Curry.
A memorial service will be held at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren in Weyers Cave, at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 10, 2017 with Rev. Russell Heinrich officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
