Obituary: Published in The Birmingham News on Aug. 13, 2017.

Born Wan Chun Lin in Hualien, Taiwan, ROC, Michael was adopted in Taiwan through Mustard Seed/Christian Salvation Services June, 1982, by the late Larry Brent Petty and mother, Barbara Aderhold Petty.

He was renamed and brought home July 5, 1982.

Michael attended Hewitt Trussville schools and worked at gasoline surveying for Lundberg then clerical positions at Block Buster Movie Gallery, Game Stop, and Papa John's until a serious auto wreck commenced a downward spiral of medical afflictions.

Michael was diagnosed with diabetes at an early age and commenced a lifetime of care with numerous medical specialists, during which time all those involved in his care remained attracted by his gentle, compassionate, amiable, and instinctual wish to please and assist all.

Everywhere he traveled he was greeted by "Oh, hi there, Mike! Good to see you!" by people who indicated they knew him, his name, where he lived, etc. but for the life of him the majority of them he was embarrassed to have no idea of how they knew him!

It was joked that he dare not commit any crime as he was seemingly immediately identifiable! Despite years of suffering many serious maladies and decreasing abilities Mike continued to be surrounded by devoted friends, acquaintances, and family, loving his Lord and enjoying Electronic gaming with his friends.

As a family we have enjoyed a tag-team of guardian angels which opened doors and eased many of his painful maladies.

The family is deeply indebted and appreciative of the American Kidney Foundation for its financial aid, and the prayers of numerous churches, organizations, medical professionals, and individuals over the years.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 9:00am to 10:00am at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 10:00am from the funeral home chapel. Interment will immediately follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
