Norman E. Dixon, 80, of Taylorville, formerly of Assumption, died August 9, 2017, in Life’s Journey Senior Living, Taylorville, IL.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017 in First United Methodist Church of Assumption, with a visitation one hour prior to service time. Visitation with Masonic Rites will be from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017, in Seitz Funeral Home, Assumption with Masonic services by Blueville Lodge #647. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption.

Norman was born October 31, 1936 in Burlington, IA, the son of Ralph Corwin and Margaret (Sebring) Dixon. He married Meda Bennett August 20, 1960 in Macomb, IL; she died July 13, 2000. He later married Marilyn Guthrie February 14, 2001 in Stonington, IL. She survives.

Norman graduated from Gladstone-Oquawka High School in 1954. He attended Iowa Wesleyan one year, transferred to Western Illinois University, graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Norman continued his education and received a M.S. in Industrial Education from Bradley University in 1969. He taught Industrial Arts for Assumption High School, Kemmerer Village and Central A&M High School for 41 years.

Norman was a member of First United Methodist Church of Assumption serving as Lay Leader, Ad Council Chairperson and Financial Secretary, and Lay delegate to Annual Conference. He served as Decatur District Lay Leader and Conference Lay Leader of the Central Illinois Conference 1983-1987, and a delegate to the General and Jurisdictional Conference. He was a member of Ansar Shrine, Springfield Consistory and Bromwell Lodge 451 of Assumption, serving as secretary for over 30 years, Blueville Lodge #647 of Edinburg, serving as secretary, and President of the Christian County Shrine Club in 1979. Norman was also a member of Tacusah Chapter 682 Eastern Star, serving as W.P. for many years.

Surviving are his wife; children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Ralph and Margaret Dixon; wife, Meda Dixon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Raus Cooper, Robert Davis, Robert Garwood, Virgil & Martha Greffe and Charles & Vivian Brown.
