Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 12:00 noon from Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Lanett, AL with Pastor Lamar D. Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Lanett, AL.
Mrs. Gertrude Denton Brooks was born March 20, 1932 in Harris County, Georgia to Irene Andrews Denton. She confessed Christ at an early age and united with Union Spring Methodist Church. After relocation to Lanett (then Shawmut), Alabama, she joined Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert Lee Brooks, Sr. and to this union four children were born.
In search of better opportunities for the family, she and her husband moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. While living there, she united with Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and served dutifully in various ministries. She worked for Iron Skillet for 20 years and later was employed by Methodist Hospital, where she worked until retirement. After retiring, Gertrude and Robert moved back home and reunited with their home church, Mt. Hermon, under the leadership of the late Rev. Louis Upshaw. She was very active in church. She was a Sunday School attendee, former member of Choir #2, the Cuisine Ministry and Past President of the Missionary Ministry.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Abraham Brooks and Robert L. Brooks, Jr.; one grandchild; and, two nephews they reared as sons, Willie Louis Brooks and Larry Brooks.
