Husband of Mary Griswold.

Tama, Ia. -- A. L. Beal 71, prominent Tama contractor, died at 2 a.m. Saturday in a Marshalltown hospital following a major operation Thursday. As a contractor Mr. Beal supervised the erection of scores of the better business buildings and residence in Tama, Toledo and other towns. Among these were the Tama public library, I. O. O. F. hall at Toledo, bank buildings at Chelsea and Elberon, consolidated school at Le Grand, power plant at Mason City and large residence now owned by H. T. Cherry at Tama. His first large project was the Judge J. W. Willett home built in 1892. He was also an expert cabinet maker. A talented musician, he played the cornet and piano and was director of the Toledo bank many years ago. At one time he served as superintendent of the Sunday school of the Methodist church of Tama.

He was born in Dixon, IL., and completed a course at Dixon business college. He also attended Western college at Toledo.

Surviving him are his widow and four daughters, Mr. J. R. Reid and Mrs. William Booth, of Tama: Mrs. Dell Fuller and Mrs. Scott Muirhead of Toledo. Services will be at the Harrison funeral home Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery.
