Joe Malcom McGuire, a lifelong resident of Comanche, passed away early Monday evening, August 8, 2016 in Duncan, following a lengthy illness. He was 89 years old. Joe was born May 19, 1927 in Comanche, to Wade and Miriam (Brooks) McGuire.

He and Lena June Shults were united in marriage on June 25, 1948 at the Comanche Church of Christ. Joe worked for Sun Oil Company (later Tosco Refinery) for over 35 years. Also during that time he worked as a farmer and rancher at his home west of Comanche. He was an avid calf roper. He loved fishing and deer hunting.

Joe took great pleasure in watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting event throughout their school years. He enjoyed volunteering his time for the Food Bank. He and June loved going out to eat, with the "Primetimers", made up of their friends from the church. Joe loved drinking coffee with his friends every morning at Edgewood.

Survivors include his wife June, of the home; two children: Kevin McGuire, Palm Springs, CA, and Ramona Dixon and husband James, Duncan, OK; grandchildren: David McGuire, Duncan, OK, Brian Dixon, Lawton, OK, and Noah McGuire, Palm Springs, CA; great-grandchildren: Grayson McGuire, Duncan, OK, James William Dixon, Sandusky, Ohio, and Alissa Dixon, Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Phyllis McConnell and husband James, McKinney, TX; a sister-in-law, Ann Shults, Duncan, OK; nephew Mike McConnell and wife Collene, McKinney, TX; niece Lesi Cotes and husband Ernie, McKinney, TX; and other great nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Gary "Bud" Shults.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Chisholm Trail Church of Christ, with Leonard Keele officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery.
