Rita Mae Briggs, 68, Emporia, Kansas, daughter of Harry and Matilda Briggs died Monday, August 7, 2017 at Newman Hospital in Emporia, Kansas. Rita lived most of her life in Emporia and was a retired Nurses Aide and Dietary Aide. She was an avid Kansas City Royals fan and spent many hours and years tracing the family history. Her hobbies included reading and needlecraft. She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Vernon, Clarence, and William; and three sisters, Marjorie Goldsmith, Mary Snedker, and Helen VanSickle.Rita is survived by one brother, Robert Briggs of Eureka, Kansas; and four sisters, Eva Banks of Independence, Ella Day of Mulvane, Jeannie Teichgraeber of Osage Beach, Missouri, and Susan Grother of Americus. She will be greatly missed by her family including her 33 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; as well as great-great nieces and nephews. A family historian, Rita never forgot a birthday of her large family. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Friday,August 11, at Lincoln Cemetery, Lebo, KS.In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Emporia Zoo.
