Gladys Julia (Pauley) Rogers, daughter of Isadore Anthony and Clara Ann (Wiese) Pauley, was born on June 8, 1926 on a farm near Portsmouth, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth and attended school at St. Paul’s Catholic School in Defiance after moving there at a young age. After the death of her father, Gladys helped her mother and neighbors run the family farm.

A few years later, the family made their home in Harlan where Gladys worked as a waitress at different cafes. She then went to work for Allen Plumbing and Heating and began working in their Council Bluffs office.

On December 11, 1956, Gladys was united in marriage to Harley Louis Rogers in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After their marriage, they made their home in Omaha, Nebraska where she helped run their family owned shoe store. She then went to work at Joan of Arc Catholic School in Omaha as a cook where she worked until her retirement. Gladys was an avid animal lover and enjoyed her cats very much over the years.

Harley died on October 15, 1993 and after his death Gladys continued to make her home in Omaha. In May of 2015, Gladys became a resident of the Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa and this is where she died on July 12, 2017 having attained the age of ninety-one years, one month and four days. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Gladys is survived by her brother Orlin “Buck” Pauley and his wife Susan of Harlan, Iowa; her niece Julia and her husband Michael Seiler of Bowling Green, Kentucky; other relatives and friends.
