Scott Lawrence-Richards, 63, of Cedar Falls, died Monday, August 7, 2017, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was born March 15, 1954 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of John and Marion (Vergenz) Richards.

Scott married Heather Lawrence on April 9, 1979 in Republic, Michigan.

He earned his B.A. and M.A. from the University of Iowa. Scott was an English teacher in the King William County, Virginia, school district for six years and at Cedar Falls High School for many years. Recently, he had his poem, “Spring Thaw”, published in the Spring 2016 issue of the North American Review.

Scott is survived by his wife, Heather Lawrence-Richards, of Cedar Falls; three sons, Nate Lawrence-Richards of Des Moines, Iowa, Tim (Brooke) Lawrence-Richards of Cedar Falls and Alex Lawrence-Richards of Brooklyn, New York; a grandchild, Michael Lawrence-Richards, of Cedar Falls; his mother, Marion Richards, of Mason City, Iowa, and three brothers, Mark Richards of Solon, Iowa, Judd (Linda) Richards of Hague, Virginia and Jay (Karla) Richards of Woodland Park, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Richards and his father and mother-in-law, Richard and Helen Lawrence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 5—8:00 pm Thursday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, where a 5:00 p.m. Rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Vigil Service will be conducted.
Memorials may be directed to the N. E. Iowa Food Bank or Cedar Valley Hospice.
