LANETT - Ms. Susie O. Hill, 84, of Lanett died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 at Atlus House in Atlanta.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Revs. Eugene Cooks, Bernard Williams, Larry Carter and Frank Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow at Pinehill Cemetery.
The remains will lie in state at the church on Thursday from noon until the funeral hour.
Ms. Hill leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Johnnie (Betty) Ogletree of Valley and Maurice Ogletree and Egland (Bobbie) Ogletree, both of Lanett; one daughter, Christy Stacey Ogletree of Smyrna, Ga.; siblings, two cousins who were raised as siblings, Ralph Cofield of Chicago and Alice (Jerry) Murry of Lanett; four brothers:Eugene Trammell Jr. and Walter Trammell, both of Lanett, Wendell (Joy) Trammell of Aiken, S. C. and Otis (Julie) Trammell of Madison, Wis.; five sisters:Jacqueline Trammell of Hartford, Conn. and Earnestine (Charlie) Bailey, Martha McCurty, Patricia (Andrew) Jackson, Connie (Jimmy) Hall and Nevelyn Pittman, all of Lanett; six grandchildren, Tammy (Patrick) Floyd of Mableton, Ga., Zachary (Michelle) Ogletree of Fairburn, Ga., Jermaine Ogletree of Valley, Shantrina Rucker of Atlanta and Tristian Flournoy and Ziliyah Benton, both of Lanett; eight great-grandchildren and three special siblings:Gladys Hicks and Robert (Geneva) Ross, both of Toledo, Ohio and Lizzie (Tommie) Finley of Philadelphia, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Born June 20, 1926 in Chambers County, Ms. Hill was the daughter of the late John and Joe-Ross (Scroggins) Burton. Susie attended Lanier High School and later chose nursing as a profession. She was a nurse's assistant for more than 18 years at George H. Lanier Memorial Hospital in Valley, where she not only nurtured the sick but also encouraged them with her warm and friendly smile, her jovial and kind demeanor and her godly words of wisdom. At an early age, Ms. Hill confessed Christ and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church under the pastorship of the Rev. Slaughter. She was a member of the senior choir, the Missionary Society, Matron's Circle and the Alpha Omega Club. Ms. Hill enjoyed attending Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. While living in Smyrna, she enjoyed participating in activities such as morning exercise, tree decorating, craft making and joy riding at the Woodland Ridge Assisted Living Community.
