February 26, 1929 - August 5, 2017

Our beloved mother, LaVonda went home to her Savior on August 5, 2017.

LaVonda was born February 26, 1929 in Sioux City, Iowa to Adrian Theodore "Ted" and Elsie Adeline (Lynn) Allen.

LaVonda's family traveled westward as part of the R. E. A. program before settling in Sedro-Woolley in 1942.

LaVonda graduated from SWHS in 1947 where she met the love of her life, Dan Vandenburg.

Dan and LaVonda married on August 21, 1948 and lived in the Day Creek and Sedro-Woolley are before purchasing a home on Fruitdale Road in 1950. Dan and LaVonda have lived in that home since and have enjoyed nearly 69 years of marriage.

LaVonda raised three children in Sedro-Woolley as well as suffering the loss of two children in infancy.

LaVonda was active in her church, Inspire Church, for many years where she faithfully taught Sunday School. LaVonda also attended the Hoehn Road Church of God for many years as well. LaVonda also volunteered at the Helping Hands Food Bank for over 30 years and was active in the Skagit Rock and Gem Club and the Washington Old Time Fiddlers.

LaVonda is survived by her husband, Dan; daughters, Laura and husband, Rankin McGougan, of Ft. Meyers, Florida and Susan and husband, David Shoaf, of Jacksonville, Florida; son, Nathan Vandenburg, of Sedro-Woolley; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret and husband, Richard Hammer, of Burlington; brother, Forrest Allen, of Mount Vernon; sisters-in-law, Virginia Allen, of Mount Vernon and Sara Jane Strong, of Burlington; numerous nieces and nephews. LaVonda was also regarded as "Mom" or "Grandma" to nearly everyone she met.

LaVonda was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Johnny and Barbara; two sisters, Darlene Stephan and Donna Mohler; brother, Mike Allen; uncle, Warden Allen.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of the Northwest and Lemleys for all their help.

Memorials are suggested to the Sedro-Woolley Helping Hands Food Bank or to www.loveachild.com.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00, Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Inspire Church, 805 Township Street, Sedro-Woolley, Pastor Bill Bates, officiating, followed by a potluck. LaVonda's final resting place will be Hamilton Cemetery in a family Committal Service.
