The former Mayor Harry W. Knight, age 91, of Monroe, died on August 6, 2017. He was born in Walton County, GA on October 28, 1925 to the late Mann Knight and the late Minnie Greer Knight.

He was preceded in death by his sister, the late Bernice Knight Brock; brothers, the late Robert Knight and the late Monroe Knight.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Gunter Knight; daughter and son-in-law, DeVeda and Doug Powell of Gaithersburg, Maryland; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Connie Hale of Monroe and Wayne and Sue Hale of Monroe; grandchildren; Matt and Amy Hale of Warner Robins, GA, Tara and Jason Phelps of Monroe, Jill and Shannon Broach of Monroe, Kerie and Matt Garrett of Good Hope, and Nicole and Matt Jacobs of Gaithersburg, Maryland; thirteen beautiful great grandchildren.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Meadows Funeral Home. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Brant Callaway officiating. Internment followed at Westlawn Cemetery.
