Mrs. Martha Edmonds died July 8th, 1897, after a long term of suffering. Her sons left home and business to care for mother. We all had learned to love her. He called on her only a few days preceding her death and addressed with "How is it today, Aunt Mattie," and with her usual smile said "this home is getting a little rugged, but over the river I see the other one. It is more lovely than I can tell."
Martha Jane Gittings was born near Paducah, Union County, Kentucky, Feb. 14th, 1828; moved with her parents to Illinois in 1842. She was married to Marvin Edmonds, September 20, 1848. They then returned to Illinois where Marvin Edmonds died, March 9th, 1877, and Martha Edmonds died July 8th 1897, at her home in Terre Haute, Illinois. Mrs. Edmonds; funeral was attended by her many friends at the M.E. Church, Rev. Roe conducting. Interment was in Terre Haute cemetery. The lady lived a friend to all who favored justice to all mankind, and died a sister to all who recognize a parentage in the godhead.
