Born September 15, 1936 in Joliet, he was the son of Fred and Goldie (nee Shartzer) Armbrust. He was a proud United States Army veteran, and was stationed in Germany from 1955-1958 with the 10th Mountain Division.
Carl was the proprietor of Carl Armbrust Men's Hair Styling, serving countless clients and friends at his Crest Hill shop for over 40 years. He was the first men's hairstylist in Will County to travel the country participating in many hair care competitions, and was the recipient of many awards for his talents. For 15 years, Carl was also an Instructor for the Illinois Department of Corrections at Stateville Prison.
He was longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Joliet, where he served many years as an usher. He was also a former member of the Irving A.C. Carl's hobbies included fishing and following all kinds of sports activities. He was an incredibly social man and will be remembered for his warm and caring personality. One of his favorite activities was attending the meetings of his Breakfast Club, which was a large group of men who grew up together in the old neighborhood and continued to meet monthly.
Carl was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mildred C. (nee Lopez) Armbrust (November 21, 2013); and his parents.
Surviving are two daughters Denise Schreiner and Melinda (Jeff) Avery; two grandchildren, Zachary and Bianca Avery; one sister, Nancy Ellis; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services for Carl R. Armbrust will be Wednesday August 9, 2017 at 10:15 from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Roads., Joliet, to St. Joseph Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park where Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army.
