Adah Earlene (Hogue) Copple, age 89, went home to the Lord on August 4, 2017. After a lengthy illness, Earlene passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her devoted family. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 48 yrs.

Mrs. Copple was born in the Tidal Oil Camp at Ranger, TX on January 10, 1928 to Naomi Laverne (Hinman) Hogue and Edwin Walter Hogue. Earlene’s parents were transferred to Santa Anna, TX and then to Hobbs, NM where she grew up in the Tide Water Oil Company camp. During WWII Earlene volunteered at Hobbs Army Airfield USO. She graduated from Hobbs H.S. in 1946. Earlene attended Eastern New Mexico University for two years where she was the band drum-major. Earlene later attended the University of New Mexico, earning an Associate Degree. She made lifelong friends as a member of Sigma Beta Chi sorority and the Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Earlene married Edwin Floyd Copple of Walnut Hill, IL on August 16, 1952 in Hobbs, NM. They had four children, all surviving her. Bruce E. Copple (Tammy); Brenda E. Copple; David W. Copple (Pauline); and Ginger M. Copple Herring (Rance).

Earlene was blessed with four grandchildren; Christopher S. Copple (Shelley); Julie M. Copple Venske (G. Michael); Kelly M. Craig Taylor (Matthew); and Kristen M. Copple. Five great grandchildren carry on her legacy; Abigail E., Brody E., and Cohen E. Copple; Lillian M. and Trevor G. Venske. Earlene is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Louise (Hogue) Carey; her sister-in-law Lily Ann (Burnett) Copple; and many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she adored.

Earlene was a 28 yr resident of Highland Village, TX and a member of Highland Shores “Prime Timers” club. Earlene and Edwin joined Trietsch UMC in 1991. Following his 2001 death, Earlene was active in the church’s “Widow’s Group.”

Earlene was passionate about genealogy research; especially her Scotch-Irish ancestors. She happily traveled far and wide gathering documents.In 2006 Earlene attended the 100th reunion of her paternal Galbreath-Mitchell cousins in Ashmore, IL. Earlene was a proud member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Cross Timbers Chapter. As a 6th generation Texan, Earlene was a member of Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Her maternal ancestors arrived in Texas one year before the Alamo. Earlene served as a PTA President and was a Girl Scout Leader for ten years. Her little Brownies and Girl Scouts remember Earlene fondly.

Earlene’s kindness, encouragement, courage and faith, will be forever remembered. Her family research gave her family roots. Her love gave them wings.
