Twyla D (Sarfaty) Alvarez, 44, of Brookline, MA, born of Creek Indian heritage in OKC, on Feb 5, 1964, died June 10, 2008, after an extended illness. She attended John Carroll Grade School and Bishop McGuinness High School graduating in 1982. Her grandmother, Thelma Sarfaty, was her main and much loved parental figure. A National Merit Scholar, Twyla graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University in 1986. Attending UCSD Graduate School in Neuroscience, she discovered two great loves, San Diego, CA and Pablo Alvarez. Married Sept. 23, 1993, in Pablo's home city of Madrid, Spain, they shared a love of children, science fiction, cats, travel and reading. Their first date was spent laughing over a parody of Lord of the Rings. Twyla adored and cherished her sons, Daniel and Gabriel. After moving to Brookline, MA, Twyla redirected her career from research into law enforcement as a Crime Analyst for the Police Depts. of Brookline and Somerville, MA and later as an Investigative Analyst for the Insurance Fraud Bureau of MA. She was an Executive Board Member of the MA Assn of Crime Analysts. Active in the Intl Assn of Crime Analysts. She traveled nationally and internationally teaching Intelligence Analysis to law enforcement personnel. Twyla leaves behind her husband and sons of Brookline, MA mother, Carolyn Sue Dodson of OKC parents-in-law, Jose Luis and Mercedes Alvarez of Madrid, Spain and a host of friends and neighbors from her many experiences. Twyla was preceded in death by her father, Roger Sarfaty. She will be remembered for her determination, warmth, sense of humor, and support for the underdog.
