Jack was born July 12, 1919, in Alexandria, Mo., a son of George H. and Nellie Conway Murphy. He was the last living of 13 children born to this union.
He was united in marriage to Margaret N. Johnson Nov. 14, 1943, in Kahoka.
She preceded him in death April 7, 2013.
Survivors include three sons, Jack (Jan) Murphy of Phoenix, Ariz., Jim (Rita) Murphy of Fort Worth, Texas, and Mark Murphy of Revere, Mo.; one daughter, Mary Ann (Larry) Reep of Austin, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Christina (Jeff) Tuckel of Hidden Hills, Calif., Cynthia Murphy of Lake Tahoe, Nev., Rachel (Juan) Flores of Bedford, Texas, Christa (Shane) Moore of Grapevine, Texas, Lesli (David) Hill of Waco, Texas, Lauren (Clint) Christie of Amarillo, Texas, Dana (Mike) Collins and Nicole Murphy, both of Austin, Shari (Wyatt) Warschak of Round Rock, Texas, Rick (Kristen) Reep of Porter, Texas, Wendy Eckman of Wolverine Lake, Mich., and Jed Jutte of Memphis, Mo.; 16 great-grandchildren, Tinsley and Aiden Tuckel, Haley Garrett, Madison, Andrew and Tori Flores, Ashli and Lincoln Moore, Hannah and Madison Collins, Cathryn Murphy, Whitney Margaret Warschak, Ashley and April Reep, and Alexa and Anna Eckman; longtime friend who was like a daughter to Jack and Margaret, Anna Lou Gallup Jutte of Memphis; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Catherine Matticks of Granbury, Texas, and David and Mazadene Johnson of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; seven brothers, Jim, Allen, Verne, Roy, Arthur, Bob and John Murphy; and five sisters, Mae Semones, Leta Welch, Minnie Murphy, Ethyl Stump and Della Frazee.
Jack graduated from Wayland High School in 1937. He farmed all of his life and for a number of years had a plumbing and trenching business. At one time his family supplied pickles to the Pickle Factory in Keokuk, which turned into an extended family business as he solicited pickers from his children and vast array of nieces and nephews.
