JoAnn Smith Turner
1935 ~ 2017
Our loving mother, JoAnn Smith Turner, was born on January 31, 1935 to Revell and Merlene Smith in Salt Lake City, Utah and left this world on August 5, 2017.

She was raised in Draper and attended Draper Elementary and Junior High Schools. She graduated from Jordan High School. She married the love of her life John (Jack) Turner and they celebrated their 65-year anniversary on July 23rd. Mom and dad have lived in the same home in Kearns for 61 years.

Her goal in life was to be a mother and wife. She has always been fair to all eight of her children. Each of us thought we were her favorite. We all know what a privilege it has been to have her as a mother and grandmother. Her loving attention, service, example and support have molded and strengthened us all and she will be greatly missed.

Mom survived cancer and a rare infection several years ago and we feel blessed to have had these bonus years with her. She has always been so strong and showed us how to endure to the end. This extra time has brought our family even closer together.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a great testimony. She loved the Lord with all her heart and reflected that in the way she lived her life and served in her many callings. Mom and Dad served a mission to the Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial in Vermont. They also completed a service mission for 18 years in Salt Lake City.

Her passion has been round looming and she has made over 10,000 hats. She donated them to cancer camps, schools, grandchildren, and friends.

She is survived by her husband John (Jack) Turner, her eight children, Teri Whittaker (Paul), Tonia Adams (Loyal), Robyn Jackson (Howard), Julie Hughes (Doug), John Turner (Heather), Shellie Eyre (Thane), Jackie Nye (Russ) and Jodie Barney (Gary), 29 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; additionally three brothers, Lyn (Myrtle), Glen (Jeanne), Steven (Virginia) and sister Beckie Vance (Lane).
She was preceded in death by her parents Revell and Merlene Smith.
