Commander (Ret) Harold Hayes Sullivan, age 98, passed away peacefully July 28th at his son's home in Palatka, Florida. Born on November 19, 1918 and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, Harold volunteered for service in the US Navy where he served the nation for more than 30 years.
A Pearl Harbor Survivor, he saw action throughout the Pacific Theater during World War II as a surface ship sailor, underwater demolition team member, commissioned officer and ship's captain. Assigned to duty in Jacksonville in 1963, he retired as the Executive Officer of the Fleet Training Center, Mayport Naval Station in 1970. Following his career in the Navy he worked as a real estate agent and broker in Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Rosina Mae Sullivan and is survived by daughter Catherine L. Anderson of Palm Coast, FL; Michael J. Sullivan of Jacksonville Beach, FL; Harold H. Sullivan, Jr. of Palatka, FL; and Christopher C. Sullivan of Dothan, AL along with nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Interment will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:00 PM on November 20, 2017.
