John R. Burnette, 77, of Gladys, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 4, 2017, surrounded by family at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Lynchburg, on March 18, 1940, he was a son of the late John G. Burnette and Bernice C. Goin. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Preston Burnette. He served his country in the Marine Corps and the Navy Reserve, and retired from Sentry Equipment. He is survived by his three children, Karen Diamond, Tina Weeks, and Johnathan Burnette and wife, Jessi; one sister, Barbara Snow and husband, Charles; one brother, Frank Burnette; eight grandchildren, Heather Godsie, Jennifer Diamond, Ashley Harbour, Zachary Weeks, Allison Weeks, Keeley Burnette, Khamrin Burnette, Kasen Burnette; and 10 great-grandchildren. A celebration of John's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Pastor Sam Stump officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery Columbarium with military honors by American Legion Post 16. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
