Mrs. Opal E. Tate, age 85, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Saturday evening, August 5, 2017 following an extended illness. Mrs. Tate was born on April 7, 1932 in Cedartown the daughter of the late Mr. George M. Edwards and the late Mae Belle Venable Edwards. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters and her husband, Samuel Lester Tate, Jr.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Tate had worked for Stone & Allred clothing store in downtown Cedartown for over twenty years. She was a faithful and active member of the First Baptist Church of Cedartown for many years where she was a member of the Esther Schliestett Sunday School Class.
Opal Tate is survived by her son, Lester Tate; her daughter, Barbara Tate and her grandchildren, Sam Tate and Grace Tate. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Opal Edwards Tate will be conducted on Tuesday morning, August 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Benefield and Dr. David Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Greenwood Cemetery.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as Pallbearers: Larry Little, Steve St. Clair, Larry Clark, Morgan Akin, Ronnie Jackson and David Edwards. Members of the Ester Schliestett Sunday School Class will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
