Samuel Eves was born in the Pennsylvania wilderness, near the present township of Millville, Columbia County, PA in 1778. His parents, John and Edith (Yeatman) Eves, had settled near a spring at the site in 1772; at the time, there were no other white families within 15 miles - the nearest settlement was a grist mill at Catawissa.

In July of 1778, when Samuel was 6 months old, the family had to flee their homestead to avoid the British-allied Indian war parties who were rampaging through the area after the battle of the Wyoming Valley. They returned to their former home in Delaware, until after the war's end, in 1785. Returning, with several other new families, to their homestead and finding the cabin burned and their fields overgrown, they rebuilt and replanted.

Samuel and Tamar Kitchen (Kitely) Eves married in 1801, when he was 23 and she 26, near the then-village of Muncy, PA. They remained in the area for a few years, finally emigrated from Pennsylvania to Pelham, Upper Canada (now Ontario) in late 1805 or early 1806, according to the referral issued 18 Dec 1805 by the Muncy Friends to the Pelham Friends. They emigrated with a group of their co-religionists, including other members of the Eves and Kitely families, to join a new chapter of the Society of Friends forming near York, Upper Canada (now, Toronto, Ontario).

Their children John, Priscilla, James and Isaac were born in Pennsylvania, before emigrating; children Mary Ann, Ezra, Reuben, Tamar, Thomas, Elizabeth and Edith were born in Canada.

At the time of Samuel's burial, many Friends' burials were not marked by gravestones; Samuel's grave is unmarked.
