Ralph V. “Blinky” Ferguson, 83, of Church Street, Appomattox, died August 4, 2017, at Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was married for 60 years to the late Shirley Watson Ferguson, who died May 11, 2017.
Born in Appomattox County, Va., on June 15, 1934, he was a son of the late Mary Lizzie Morris and Evans Rogers Ferguson. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and retired from Locust Grove Farm.
He is survived by a daughter, Sherry F. Peak of Lynchburg; a son, Steven V. Ferguson of Appomattox; two grandchildren, S. Tyler Ferguson and Ashley Ferguson; two sisters, Nancy F. Almond of Concord and Linda Gallier and husband, Johnny; a brother, J. Preston Ferguson all of Appomattox; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, David Ferguson, Wayne Ferguson, Lowell Ferguson and a sister, Kathy F. Monroe.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 7, 2017, at New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Moore. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
The family would like to thank the staff of Lynchburg Health and Rehab, Centra Hospice, Nancy, and Preston for their care of Blinky during his illness. .
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Appomattox Rescue Squad, PO Box 57, Appomattox, VA 24522 or Centra Hospice of Lynchburg, 1920 Atherholt Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24501.
