Think Harley-Davidson, Schlitz beer, Camel (non-filter) cigarettes, and #88 and you would automatically think of Mike Whatley. He loved his family, he loved his friends, he loved life and he found peace in loving his Lord.
His hobbies included cruising on his Harley, watching NASCAR races, playing pool, playing darts, and going fishing.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, Driscoll N and Olive Pearl Whatley; Father, Driscoll N Whatley, Jr.; Mother and Stepfather, Earl and Charlie Hazel (Whatley) Van Vliet; Brothers, William Earl Whatley; and Kenneth Eric Van Vliet.
Survived by Brother, Bruce N Whatley of Brandon, MS; Sister, Catherine Pearl (Whatley) Brantley of Keitchie, LA; Son, Stephen Michael Whatley (Holly) of Little Elm, TX; Daughters, Jonesa Lyn (Joni) (Whatley) Murphy (Terry) of Ferris, TX; Allison Marie (Whatley) Katona (Eric) of Abilene, TX; Grandson, Dylan Ray Palmer, Ferris, TX, Granddaughter, Sydney Marie Katona, Abilene, TX; and several nieces and nephews. And finally, to quote Mike, "My first wife, my first ex-wife, my first divorce, and still my best friend", Regina (Gina) Kidder, who was his caregiver during his illness.
Services will be Tuesday, August 8 at 2pm at Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12-2 prior to the service. Interment will be on site. Officiating will be Rev. Jim Owens.
