Actor. Born Orison Whipple Hungerford Jr., he was best known to television viewers as Bronco Layne on the ABC western series "Bronco" from 1958 to 1962. He was born in New York City, but his family later moved to Texas where he went to school. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he first took some classes at Texas A&M University and then went west to California. He was discovered by a talent scout from Paramount Pictures at a party and soon started landing acting roles. His first acting role came in the 1958 film "The Space Children". In 1958 he changed his name legally from his birth name to Ty Hardin. He would go on to appear in numerous films during his career with such credits as "Merrill's Marauders" (1962), "The Chapman Report" (1962), "PT-109" (1963), "Palm Springs Weekend" (1963), "Battle of the Bulge" (1965), "Berzerk!" (1967), "Custer of the West" (1967), and "Rescue Me" (1992). In 1958 he made his television debut, appearing as Bronco Layne on "Bronco". He would also appear as the same character on the shows "Cheyenne", "Sugarfoot", and Maverick". After "Bronco", he continued in television with such credits as "Riptide", "The Quest", "Flying High", "David Cassidy - Man Undercover", "The Love Boat", and "We Are Angels". He later became known for his conservative anti-tax views.
